Changes in the Enzymatic Composition of Liver*

چکیده
Rats made diabetic with alloxan have been shown to excrete less Nmethylnicotinamide than normal rats when given test doses of tryptophan (2). The present investigation was designed to determine the nature of the enzymatic alteration responsible for the difference between the two groups of animals. A deficiency in one or more of the enzymes needed for the conversion of tryptophan to nicotinic acid would obviously explain the results. No such deficiency was found, but, since not all of the steps in nicotinic acid biosynthesis have yet been described, only some of the enzymes could be assayed. An alternative explanation was suggested, however, by the finding of a very large increase in the concentration of an enzyme, picolinic carboxylase (3), which attacks the product of 3-hydroxyanthranilic

Background: Besides acute lethal cyanide poisoning, its chronic intoxication may also produce some pathologic effects on different tissues that precedes alterations in biochemical parameters. The present study was aimed to evaluate the effects of sublethal cyanide exposure on some tissue enzyme activities in liver and kidney of rats. Methods: Twelve male rats were divided into two groups as ...
متن کاملChanges in the composition and function of the gut microbiota in celiac disease
Evidence is supported the hypothesis that any changes in the composition and function of the gut microbiota play a fundamental role in a number of chronic inflammatory diseases including celiac disease (CD). In the last decade, several culture-independent methods have been developed to identify the components of the human microbiome. The study of microbiota based on nucleic acid analysis found ...
متن کاملImpact of Propionic Acid on Liver Damage in Rats
Propionic acid (PA) is a short chain fatty acid, a common food preservative and metabolic end product of enteric bacteria in the gut. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of PA on liver injury in male rats. Male western albino rats were divided into two groups. The first group served as normal control, the second was treated with PA. The activities of serum hepatospecific ...

Background: Lead is one of the heavy metals that is persists in the environment and has destructive effects on various human tissues. We investigated the effects of lead on the histological features of liver and its enzymatic functions. Methods: Forty chickens were purchased and randomly divided into four groups. In addition to the normal feed, each group received different doses of lead aceta...
متن کاملChanges in Blood Lipids and Enzymatic Reactions in Response to Atorvastatin Administration Following a High-Fat Diet in a NAFLD Rat Model
Background and objectives: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic liver disease caused by the accumulation of large amounts of fat in the hepatocytes. Given that atorvastatin is effective for treatment of NAFLD, the present study investigated effects of high-fat/fructose diet (HFFD) with atorvastatin on liver enzymes and lipid profile in a NAFLD rat model. Methods: Thirty-two m...
